Recipe for Disaster! V27 No. 1 Part 3 How often do people start the new year with promises or resolutions that they hope to keep during the coming year? What ingredient is missing in this recipe for success? What is it that inspired that person to seek these changes in their life? Matthew 6:33-34 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (KJV) We are or should be, seeking first the kingdom of God. But also, the verse says, “and His righteousness.” How many people are aware of what God’s righteousness is, and what it entails? It is little details like this that people miss or ignore but are vital requirements for the recipe to produce the proper results. BC, or before Jesus Christ, one was instructed to follow the ten commandments, and in doing so, that they themselves acknowledged that they had strayed from what was required of them. Yet, it was not able to bring a person into personal relationship with God, because the price had not yet been paid for man’s sins. So, in essence, it was a recipe without the final ingredient. It made one aware that they had done wrong, but with no way to alleviate sin, as there had not yet been a price paid for that ransom. We should no longer be listening to or following old recipes; ones that have been around either by the old covenant or wives’ fables and such and are not able to or capable of procuring the ingredient necessary for a new life in the Spirit. So, we should be starting to see that there is an essential ingredient that is required for acquiring and maintaining a spiritual relationship with the Father. John 5:39 You keep searching the scriptures, for you yourselves suppose that you will get possession of eternal life through them; but they are witnesses that testify of me, but you refuse to come to me to get possession of life. (William’s New Testament) One can do many things by modifying the ingredients in a recipe. However, if one omits the main or primary ingredient, it will always be a failure for obtaining the proper results. Psalms 119:103-105 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. KJV Is His Word sweet or bitter to you? Do you blame God for your shortcomings and failures? Would you make a daily diet of things that taste horrible to you? How sweet are thy words unto my taste! Who had a spiritual one; and could discern perverse things, and could taste how good and gracious the Lord is: and so his words were sweet unto him; the doctrines of grace, the truths of the Gospel, were delightful and pleasant to him; like unadulterated milk, desirable by him: like good wine, that goes down sweetly; like good food, that is exceeding palatable; or like honey, and even sweeter than that, as follows. (John Gill commentary) We not only need a diet that tastes good to us, but it also must be nutritionally good for us as well. Just as the old covenant could tell you what you were doing wrong, yet there was not a permanent solution for correcting those sins. 1Corinthians 1:20-23 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; KJV Man has attempted to alter God’s Word to where it suits that which they proclaim. They find ways to hold people captivated by their good words and fair speeches. In other words, they attempt to alter that proper recipe essential for the new birth and a relationship with Him. How often do we see man try to dictate to God what they believe should be the terms for a relationship with Him? Romans 16:17-18 But I beg you, brothers, to keep on the lookout for those who stir up divisions and put hindrances in your way, in opposition to the instruction that you had, and always avoid them. 18. For such men are really not serving our Lord Christ but their own base appetites, and by their fair and flattering talk they are deceiving the hearts of unsuspecting people. (William’s New Testament) In real life, how often will one return to a restaurant that serves food that does not taste good? Will one keep using a recipe that does not please you or your family? This is why one must study the Word of God for themselves. So that they get to know His voice and His Word, so that one may not be able to be tricked or fooled by men who are trying to deceive you. Next issue we will conclude Recipe for Disaster. That you may know Him, In the service of Jesus Christ. Larry Gazelka©2024 Good day. Recipe for Disaster! Vol 26 n9 Part 2 In the last newsletter, we talked about how the disciples asked Jesus Christ how they should pray. Matthew 6:5-9 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. KJV One must also remain mindful of the fact that many of the religious people of that day or era used the same prayers for certain things over and over. How often do you see people wanting to make a spectacle of themselves when they say they are praying? Even in today’s world, how easy is it for people to get caught up in what the masses are doing, rather than being followers of Christ? People want to follow the masses, or where the most people are going. What would have happened if Noah had decided to do that? How easy can it be to get caught up in what everyone else is doing or saying? If it seems that those people are successful by the numbers that they have following, isn’t it easier to want to imitate them? We can then see why we are counseled to continue in the faith, grounded and settled, and not moved about by any or every new religious fad that comes along. Colossians 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; KJV. Note that it says to continue in the faith, and we know, or should know that faith is by hearing, stopping all that you are doing, and giving full audience to that which Father wants to talk with you about. Romans 10:17 And this proves that faith comes from a Message heard, and that the Message comes through it having been spoken by Christ. (Weymouth NT translation) So only going on what you hear other people speak or say, and then acting upon it, isn’t this a recipe for disaster? How often are people quick to quote other people, yet ignore that which the Word of God says? Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: KJV The reflections of Erasmus upon the strait gate are lively. How strait, says he, is the gate, how narrow the way, that leadeth to life! In the way nothing is to be found which flatters the flesh, but many things opposite; poverty frequently, fasting, watching, injuries, chastity, sobriety. And as for the gate, it receives none who are swollen with the glory of this life, none that are elated and lengthened out with pride; none who are distended with luxury. It does not admit those whose spirits are laden with the fardels of riches, nor those that drag along with them in affection the other implements of the world. None can pass through it but naked men, who are stripped of all worldly lusts, and sealed with the image of God. (Coke commentary) It is a strait and narrow gate, and few be there that find it! In this present evil world, in the lower nature, there are many who would devise schemes and trickery in an attempt to separate you from those things that the Lord has provided you to be able to get through this life. How much does one do to protect those things that Father has given you to have stewardship over? Now for a moment think about how valuable your new life in Christ is. One must not forget that there is one that wants to steal your hope in Christ; his aim is to kill you spiritually so that you are no longer a threat to his kingdom, and thus destroy you spiritually in the process. In other words, creating a recipe for disaster. How often does one forget that it is the simplicity of the Gospel of Christ? Anything we ask in His name, that will he do that the Father might be glorified through the Son. John 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. KJV John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. KJV If you were using a recipe for a certain dish, and you only used half of the ingredients called for, how do you think that would turn out? Isn’t the same true in our spiritual walk, that if we only use half of the recipe for prayer, what do you think the results will be? That you may know Him, In the service of Jesus Christ, Larry Gazelka LarryGazelka©2023 Good day. Recipe for Disaster! Vol 26 N8 Recipe: a set of instructions for preparing a particular dish; including a list of ingredients required. Something which is going to lead to a particular outcome. If people are physically ill, could some of those ills be caused by an improper diet? It is known that man can live approximately 8 to 21 days without food. Consider that in the Word. We are instructed that man should not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds forth from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. KJV So, we saw that 8 to 21 days is approximately how long man (the physical side of man’s nature) can live. But how long can it be for the spirt side of man? If one does have proper food for their diet, can that which is good, then be prepared in a way that it could possibly be detrimental to one’s health? When one is about to prepare a meal, they often times have a recipe card that gives them the list of ingredients that are essential for properly preparing it. Sometimes this can be on a recipe card, or often times from memory. However, there are a few things that people never take into consideration. No two meals are ever the same. Whether it is meat, one must be mindful that no two cows or pigs are ever the same. So, one must be mindful that the seasoning and cooking time may vary a bit. So, one can begin to understand that even though one has a recipe card, it is not a hard and fast list of instructions, but rather one that gives an outline of what to use for this dish, but that adjustments must be made. What would happen if you used the same recipe for every piece of meat you cooked? What would happen if you prepared all of your vegetables the same way? We can see that this would not only be a bit detrimental to having the recipe turn out right, but also it could give us a dish that is not pleasing physically. Proper adjustment must be allowed for with each and every recipe, since no two things (plant or animal) are ever the same. In Mattew chapter six, the disciples inquired of the Lord how they should pray. The Lord replied that they should pray after this manner, or after this fashion. Matthew 6:9-13 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread.12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. KJV In other words, the Lord was giving them a recipe for conversing with the Father. We do, or should know and realize that in life, each and every situation is new and different, so there will have to be adjustments made to the recipe. Are you able to see how the Lord was giving them a recipe for how to communicate with God the Father? He had just counseled them on vain repetitions. What would happen if you used the same recipe for everything you cooked? Just as every detail in a recipe is adjusted for the differences encountered, would it then not also be true for our conversations with God the Father? Note also in this outline for prayer that is given, that we are to seek our daily bread from the Father as well. Yet, how many people see this as both nourishment for the spirit man as well as the physical man? Most tend to their physical needs in a timely fashion each day, but what nourishment does one give to the spirit man? Is it not true that our spirit being should be of the highest priority each day? Should it not be the highest thing on our list of things to do each day? How often does your spirit man get the proper amount of nourishment each day? Today, are you using a recipe for life, or for disaster? That you may know Him, In the service of Jesus Christ, Larry Gazelka Copyright ©, Larry Gazelka Good day. In God's Image! v18n52 Part Six Matthew 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. (KJV) 191 akouo- heareth: 1) to be endowed with the faculty of hearing (not be deaf) 2) to hear: a) to attend to, to consider what is or has been said b) to understand, to perceive the sense of what is said 3) to hear something: a) to perceive by the ear what is announced in one's presence b) to get by hearing, to learn c) a thing that comes to one's ears, to find out, to learn e) to give ear to a teaching or a teacher f) to comprehend, to understand. 4920 suniemi- understandeth: 1) to set or to bring together; in a hostile sense, used of combatants 2) to put (as it were) the perception with the thing perceived; to set or to join together in the mind a) that is, to understand: the man of understanding b) idiom for: a good and upright man (having the knowledge used of those things which pertain to salvation) 726 harpazo- catch away: 1) to seize, to carry off by force 2) to seize on, to claim for oneself eagerly 3) to snatch out or to snatch away. Father, is a God of faith! By faith, we understand and know that the worlds were framed by the Word of God. Without faith, it is impossible to please Father! He, Father, rewards those that diligently seek Him. 1567 ekzeteo- diligently: 1) to seek out, search for 2) to seek out, that is, to investigate, to scrutinize 3) to seek out for oneself, to beg, to crave 4) to demand back, to require. Faith is by hearing, hearing and giving full attention to Father as He speaks to us. When Father speaks to you, do you block out all disturbances and distractions, that might hinder you from hearing Father’s instructions in righteousness for you? So then, if we are created in God’s image, and after their likeness, we are to be people of faith! Faith in God, and in His Word. How real is God’s Word to you? Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. (KJV) Ephesians 4:4-7 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. (KJV) Can God force you to believe? Since the answer is no; then it is totally in your hands, whether or not your faith in God’s Word will develop at all. It is totally up to you, whether or not the devil will be able to come in and catch away the Word which was sown in your heart. No man can take away that which has been delivered to you; but, you can surrender that which you have! How firm of a grip do you have on the Word of God? How often do you believe all that you read in the Bible? Is it God’s Word from cover to cover for you? Is Father thanked and honored for all of the blessings that have come upon you? Romans 1:21-24 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts,… (KJV) Whenever we doubt Father’s Word, we exchange the truth for a lie! We put more credence in the physical world, than we do in God’s Word. What image is it that is in the forefront of our mind? What is the priority in your life, right now, at this very moment? What is it that is occupying your mind at this very moment? Romans 8:28-29 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. (KJV) What is God’s purpose for your life? If you are not sure of God’s purpose for your life, how can you then be conformed to the image of His Son? Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (KJV) Is your life a living sacrifice to God? What are the guidelines for your life; the world’s way, or God’s Word? What is it that renews your mind each day? Are you sure enough of Father’s voice, to know His will for you each and every day? All of Father’s counsel, will cause mental and moral growth in your life, in accordance with His Word. 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. (KJV) What changes are taking place in your life? What do people see in your life? Is it what you have accomplished, or what Father has done by His Spirit, as we allow the Word to work in us? What do you see when you look in the mirror? 2 Corinthians 4:1-2 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. (KJV) Have we fainted, or backed away from the things that Father has asked of us? Have we quit being dishonest with the Word? Have we quit using the Word for our personal gain? Do we get people to try to conform to our image, or to Father’s image? 2 Corinthians 4:3-6 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (KJV) Who is the gospel hid from? Has your mind been blinded? How can the mind be blinded? What does blinded here mean? Did you notice, that it is the god of this world, that blinds the minds of them that chose to believe not. This present world is one of flesh and blood. Physical senses and the trappings that go along with it. These are the things that govern this present world. John 17:14-18 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. (KJV) Is it the light of the glorious gospel of Christ that is illuminating your mind? It is this message, and this message alone, that can enlighten you, and bring unity to the body of Christ. It causes those that will believe, to be an integral part of the body of Christ while they are here on this earth. Will you; or are you allowing the Word to conform and transform you into a working member of the body of Christ? Hebrews 1:1-3 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (KJV) It is the express image of His person! It does not say images, but rather singular. One Lord, one faith, one baptism; and all by the measure of the gift of Christ! What image do you see when you look in the mirror? In God's Image! v18n51 Part Five Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.(KJV) Hebrews 11:6-7 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. (KJV) Are you beginning to see and comprehend yet, that our words do frame our world that is around us? Each of us as an individual, created in the image and likeness of God, are responsible for the words that comes out of our mouth. It is not what goes in through the mouth that defiles a man, but rather that which proceeds forth out of his mouth that defiles him. Matthew 15:17-20 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man: (KJV) It is real easy to become defensive of the words that we use and speak in our every day life. We try to justify what, and how, and why we are speaking the words that we do. We have to keep fresh in our hearts and minds, that we as an individual, will give account of the words that we speak. This is God’s Word! While watching TV the other night; I was watching a program called Chicago Hope. In the course of the program, the doctors had lied to their patients, and told them what their patients wanted to hear, rather than what they had needed to hear. This is what the doctors took upon themselves, as to what they thought was in the best interests of the patients. In many ways, this reminded me of the way that the preachers handle the Word of God. They tell the people what they think that they need to hear, rather than the truth. After watching the program, it caused me to ponder a bit, the shape of our society in general. If you go to the majority of car dealerships, and you explain to them what you want and need, it is like they do not even hear what you say. Instead, they want to sell you that which benefits them the most. Your interests and needs are not even considered, unless you get ready to leave. Just as the other day, we went out to buy a new washing machine. We stopped at several stores, and in each instance, they did not hear what we had to say about what we wanted, but rather tried to sell us that which made them the most money, not even considering our needs. In all but one instance, they tried to sell us the top of the line models, which made the most money for the store and the salesman. Is it any different within the denominations today? It seems that we only consider those to be successful who are the ones with the biggest buildings, or the biggest body counts, and/or doing the Lord’s work. If this is the case, then Jesus Christ was a total failure, for there were only about 120 waiting in the upper room for the promise of the Holy Spirit. Could it be that we have our priorities as the Church all wrong? For the most part, we do not know what the truth of the Word is! John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV) John 4:23-24 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (KJV) It is the truth of the Word that sets us free. This freedom is maintained, only as we continue in the Word of God. It is only through the truth that we are able to maintain fellowship with Father. Yet, our country as a whole, no longer knows how to live by and for the truth. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Doubt and fear comes by hearing the words and lies of the devil, who is the father of lies. We are either operating in faith or fear, there is no middle ground, or fence to straddle. The Word tells us quite plainly, that either the tree is good, or it is corrupt, no in between! Matthew 7:13-15 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (KJV) We need to constantly remind ourselves, that it is a broad path, and heavily traveled, that leads away from Father’s house. This is the path that leads to eternal destruction. It is a narrow and hard path that leads to eternal life, and there are few that have chosen to travel that road. Romans 10:10-11 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. (KJV) In most instances, if you will listen to someone’s words for five minutes, you are able to discern and tell exactly where their heart is. What is in their heart is what will be coming out of their mouth. The tongue will give a total and complete narrative of where their heart is, and what has been renewing it. This is why we as Christians, have to be aware of the words that we speak and put forth; as well as to be knowledgeable of the meanings of these words. How often have you been told, or even told someone else that they look fantastic? Did you really mean it? Fantastic: existing only in fantasy; unreal; imaginary; bizarre; strange. Is this really what you were trying to convey? How often do we use words that we do not know the meaning of? We think that we do; or we have heard someone else use them, so we assume that they are proper or okay. Just because someone else taught us wrong, is not an excuse that will stand up before Father. Each of us, is responsible for the words that we speak, just as we are responsible for our own salvation. God is very real! God’s kingdom is very real! There is nothing imaginary about it. Will you be a part of it, or will your words keep you out? How well would you have handled being one of the half brothers or sisters of Jesus Christ? (Especially since we know that He was without sin His entire life). Do you think that they were ever corrected for the words that they spoke? We have a hard enough time with the brethren around us, imagine if you can, what that would have been like. What kind of world do your words have you living in? In God's Image! v18n50 Part Four Matthew 12:36-37 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (KJV) Last week, we left off talking about being justified or condemned by our own words. We have the choice to speak words that give life, or words that bring about death. It is each of us as an individual, that will give account of the idle words that we have spoken, and have not sought out Father’s forgiveness for (and in most instances, that would be quite a few). The words that we have not asked for forgiveness for, we will give account of, and be held responsible for! Being created in God’s image, and after their likeness, does come with responsibility. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, even though most do not believe it. Proverbs 18:20-21 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (KJV) Death and life are in the power of the tongue, whether you believe it or not. The tongue is an extension of the heart, and will speak forth that which you believe. What words do you have working for you? 1 Corinthians 15:33-34 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. 34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. (KJV) We fail to see and understand, (and in most instances even believe), that we become a product or likeness of who and what we hang around, or associate with. Such as, maintaining relationships with those who do not hold fast the word of God in its entirety. This will eventually lead to our downfall. (We have to remember, that God’s laws work, whether we believe them or not.) James 3:1-2 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. (KJV) How many of you, have taken a good look at the third chapter of the book of James? It is a very powerful message on the tongue, and the life or destruction that it can bring. Have you ever stopped to ponder where James received all of this insight? Where did he acquire all of this knowledge on the tongue? It gives us a clear understanding of the power and force that our words have and hold. It also gives us a clear picture, of how the words around us, can and do direct our footsteps. Psalms 119:104-106 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. 106 I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments. (KJV) What is directing your path? Only the Word of God can and will illuminate the straight and narrow path that leads to Father’s house. There are many though, that will try to get you to take a detour. Whose direction and guidance will you follow? James, one has to remember, was the half-brother of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. What we fail to see and hear, is what it must have been like growing up next to Him. How often, do you think that James may have been told by his older brother, that he should not be using those words, or even saying the things that he was saying? What kind of example, did James constantly have before him? Where do your words have you hanging out at? It is so easy to blame everyone else for our problems that we have surrounded ourselves with. However, the fact is and remains, that we, with our words have framed the world that currently surrounds us. You can only blame yourself! How often in the gospels, do you see where Jesus Christ goes off to pray and to be alone with Father? Have you ever stopped to hear and see how important His prayer time was to Him? We all want to see the signs and wonders that follow the Word, but, we are not willing to do what is necessary for us to get to that point. 2 Corinthians 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. (KJV) A good example of this, are the words that we choose to use in everyday life. We, as people, have tried to change the definitions of words to suit and justify our lifestyles. We use the change of meanings to justify what we have become. Let’s take a look at a few of these words. Care: mental distress; uncertainty; mental suffering or grief; anxiety. Is this really what you are trying to convey to someone as they are leaving, when you tell them to “take care”? We are told to cast all of our care upon Father! We are told to be careful or anxious for nothing! Have we decided to ignore what the Word says? 1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (KJV) Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (KJV) Father already has a solution for all of our cares, worries and problems; but He can only work in our behalf, if we allow Him to. Father can not, and will not, force Himself upon anyone. The choice is ours alone, as the individual that we are, created in the image, and after the likeness of God. We have changed words and the definitions to justify where we are, and what we are doing. It is very easy to be led astray, if we do not know the Word of God for ourselves. This is why we study the Word for Father’s approval, being able to rightly divide the Word of truth, with no reason to be ashamed! One thing that we do need to keep in mind, is the fact that we did not get ourselves in the mess that we are in overnight. We worked long and hard at it for many years. Now, when we want to get back on the straight and narrow path to Father’s house, it takes much diligence and effort on our part. Much study of the Word becomes a weariness to the flesh. We find out how lonely it is to the flesh on that narrow path, since few choose to travel on it. Many want to be as Lot’s wife, even though we have been delivered from the power of darkness. To take a long look back at what they think that they are giving up for the kingdom of God. Then, that is when we have a pity party, so that we can feel sorry for ourselves. Have any of you ever felt this way? Another good example of a word that is misused, is the word kid. The dictionary says that a kid is a young goat or similar animal. There is not one place in the Bible, where I can find that Father refers to His children as kids. I know that God does not do things by hit or miss. The Father and the Son have set an example for us to follow; will you follow too? Many people tell me that all of this concern over the words that we speak, is just a bunch of pettiness, and going over board and that it is not necessary to be this precise. Yet, as I look at and study the Word of God, I find it to be quite precise, even down to every jot and tittle. 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. (KJV) We need to learn to speak with the same wisdom that Father has given to us, through Christ Jesus. We are not to be swayed by what the world tries to force upon us. In God's Image! v18n49 Part Three Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. (KJV) What is in your picture frame? Is the picture within your frame, in the image and likeness of God? By His Word, the worlds were framed! They were complete; totally put together, and held together by the word of God. To this very day, His words carry out the exact specifications of what He sent His Word to do. Everything that Father sent His Word to do, is still accomplished, and brought to light each and every day! Let’s take a look at part of Psalms 119. Psalms 119:89-93 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. 90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. 91 They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants. 92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. 93 I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me. (KJV) Did you happen to notice, that His Word is settled in heaven? The faithfulness of Father’s Word is to all generations! Father cannot, and will not deny himself. Although, we do have the choice to accept or reject the Word of God in and for our lives. Father does not play favorites, as many people think and believe. Father affords the same opportunity of salvation to all that will open their ears, to hear what His Spirit is saying unto the Church. He established the earth, and then gave man dominion over it, (and look at the mess that we have made of it). Even in and amongst the Church, (which is supposed to be the body of Christ), we have back-biting, divisions, strife, envying, lust, greed, and the list could go on and on...! We have become imitators of man and the devil, rather than imitators of Father through Jesus Christ. We, for the most part, have started in the Spirit of Christ, and now think that we are made perfect by the flesh. Father’s Word continues faithfully till this very day, that you are reading this. For all of the promises of God, are yea, and amen! His Word continues to work, whether we believe it or not. It is up to each of us as an individual, whether it works for or against us. Unless God’s law is a delight to my life, I will perish because of the very essence of life that His word provides (John 10:10). It is the joy of the Lord that is our strength. It is when I am content and satisfied with where Father has me, that I am able to put His light on the scene. Without allowing Father total access to my heart, I will not be satisfied or content with what He asks of me. To perish in mine own afflictions, means that I have informed Father, that my plans and decisions for my life, are better then His. Thus, my afflictions (poverty, misery, and any other assortment of troubles), are what will dominate and control my life. It means that we have chosen to no longer conform ourselves to the image and likeness of God. Romans 3:3-4 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? 4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. (KJV) Romans 3:27-28 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith… (KJV) We cannot change the laws that God has set in place and motion. His Word works whether we believe it or not. The choice is quite simple; do you choose to have the Word work with and for you, or against you? A good example for us to take a look at is, gravity. How many of us have ever seen it? Yet, whether you believe in it or not, it still works. You have never seen it per say, but yet it is always there; working for or against you. You can not feel gravity by touch, yet it is there. If you were to walk off of the top of a five story building, and all the way to the ground, you continue to tell God that His law of gravity does not work, you would be wrong. Possibly even dead wrong! The same is true with the law of faith. Your words are framing the world that is around you. And in most instances, we have become servants to the world around us, rather than having dominion over it. Could this maybe, be why we are not to be of the world? Just as Father’s words are truth, they are also His servants; they work for Him. All that He created was and is good. It is only as the devil gets us to speak in his behalf, that they become perverted and evil. Why doesn’t the church teach in these areas? Could it be, that if they tell the truth, that they have been wrong in this area, then we would take a close look at how much more they have also taught us wrong in? Hebrews 11:1-3 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. (KJV) The writer of Hebrews says, that now faith is! Right now! Not yesterday, not tomorrow, but right here and now! Where are you standing in accordance with God’s Word? (Keep in mind the Polaroid snapshot). How clear is your passport picture becoming? Faith comes by hearing, stopping all distractions, and giving audience to Father as He attempts to talk with those who are willing to listen. How much of the Word do you truly believe in, let alone to act upon it? Do you truly take Father at His Word, or do you put restrictions and limitations on Him? Matthew 12:34-37 … for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (KJV) What is in the abundance of your heart? Did you know and realize, that the words that you speak, give a total picture of what is in your heart? It gives those around you, a vivid picture of what you believe. It shows them the character of who and what you are. It is either going to be good or evil, but it cannot be both. Remember, James in his epistle, tells us quite plainly, that you cannot have sweet water and bitter water coming out of the same fountain. It has to be one or the other, but not both. You, and you alone, will give account of every idle word that you speak. There will be no one else that you will be able to blame. With your own mouth you will either be justified or condemned. Are you speaking words of life? (Proverbs 18:21). Are all of the words that you speak employed for the kingdom of God? What kind of servants are working for you?
